Fox Valley Fall Event!

Fox Valley Presents: Spark the Reading-Writing Connection with Dr. Maria Walther

October 19, 2013
11-2 P.M.
3895 Main Street
St. Charles, IL 60174
How can I inspire my writers? Learn how to boost ALL students’ writing skills and target the genres that appear in the Common Core State Standards by reading aloud quality literature, teaching students how to read like writers, and highlighting the qualities of good writing through targeted mini-lessons. Armed with an annotated bibliography of picture books, you will leave this evening re-energized and ready to go back to your classroom and help students read, think, and write!

Maria Walther, who earned a doctorate in elementary education from Northern Illinois University, has taught first grade since 1986. Along with teaching young learners, Maria inspires other professionals by sharing her knowledge through customized professional development experiences. The ideas she shares reflect her continued commitment to teaching, researching, writing, and collaborating with her colleagues. Maria was honored as Illinois Reading Educator of the Year and earned the ICARE for Reading Award for fostering the love of reading in children. She has co-authored five professional books with Scholastic.
